Raju Gurung is a Nepali filmmaker and musician living and working in Kathmandu. He produces and directs both feature films and documentaries. As a musician and composer, he writes jazz/global fusion music, documentary film scores, and contemporary Nepali music. His principal instruments are drums and other percussion. He is an accomplished guitarist, and has led several award-winning rock and jazz/fusion bands in Nepal.

Musical background

Raju began playing music professionally at the age of 15. He was awarded a full scholarship and graduated from Berklee College of Music in the U.S. He has released two CDs of original music: an album of original fusion music with his band Equinox, and a solo album.

Film background

Raju received training at Boston Film/Video Foundation, was Assistant Production Manager in a major documentary house in the U.S., and was the local Assistant Director on Bernardo Bertolucci’s film Little Buddha, which was shot on location in Nepal. He has produced ten documentaries in Nepal, and is due to release his first feature film Bicycle Dreams soon.
